Tara Tourloukis – Registered Nurse Psychotherapist, PhD (c)

About Me

Professional Journey

I am a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist and Clinical Nurse Specialist with graduate education in mental health. My professional journey has been shaped by varied mental health practice, advanced education, and a deep respect for reflective nursing work.

Across diverse mental health settings, I have supported individuals, families, and fellow clinicians, which naturally led me into clinical supervision as a space for thoughtful dialogue, professional growth, and ethical reflection.

What Makes Working with Me Different

I bring a strong nursing lens to clinical supervision, one that integrates theory, ethics, and real-world practice. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, I am particularly attuned to complex clinical decision-making, role strain, and the emotional labour inherent in caring professions.

As a Nurse Psychotherapist, I also hold a unique position at the intersection of nursing and psychotherapy. This role allows me to integrate relational care, clinical reasoning, and therapeutic depth in supervision. I currently serve on the Board of the Nurse Psychotherapy Association of Ontario, where we advocate for the recognition and collaboration of all regulated therapy designations that provide psychotherapy.

Cultural Competency and Inclusive Practice

My supervisory work is grounded in a humanistic and reflective approach that values relationship, curiosity, and professional integrity. I strive to create a supervision space that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to diverse identities, lived experiences, and practice contexts.

I remain attentive to power, context, and systemic influences in both clinical work and supervision, approaching difference with openness, humility, and ongoing learning.

Approach to Supervision

My approach to supervision is collaborative and reflective, offering a supportive space to deepen clinical skills, strengthen professional confidence, and thoughtfully navigate ethical practice. For many nurses, the concept of clinical supervision is often understood as mentorship. While the language may differ, the intention is the same: a relational, supportive space to reflect on practice, ask questions, and grow professionally; all grounded in trust, dialogue, and shared curiosity. I am a strong advocate for evidence-based practice, so you can expect the occasional journal article or two after our sessions, always offered as an invitation for reflection, not obligation. As a PhD candidate in Nursing, I love keeping up to date on best practices and research.
