About Me

Hi, I’m Heidi Nichilo, a Registered Social Worker with over 18 years of experience in community, hospital-based, private practice, and non-profit mental health settings. My journey in mental health has been deeply shaped by the understanding that effective clinical work requires not just technical skills, but also deep self-awareness, continuous reflection, and a strong commitment to personal and professional growth.

Currently, I serve as Associate Faculty with City University of Seattle in Canada, teaching and mentoring students in the Master of Counselling Psychology program. I’m also deeply committed to supporting professionals in the field since 2013, I’ve provided clinical supervision to Registered Social Workers and Psychotherapists, helping them navigate the complexities of their work while maintaining a focus on self-care and resilience.

My supervision approach is built on reflective practice models, with an emphasis on growth, self-awareness, and emotional well-being. I have a particular focus on trauma, vicarious trauma, and burnout prevention, and I’m passionate about helping clinicians build sustainable careers in mental health.

In addition to my clinical and academic work, I’m passionate about creating spaces where mental health professionals can feel supported, heard, and empowered, whether through supervision, workshops, or teaching. I believe that by fostering these spaces of reflection, we not only grow as clinicians but also as people.

Through my own journey and work with others, I’ve seen how the process of reflective practice can transform the way we approach our work, our clients, and our own well-being. I’d love to support you on your path, whether that’s through clinical supervision, mentorship, or professional development. Let’s navigate this journey together!

Approach to Supervision

My approach to supervision is grounded in creating a supportive, reflective, and collaborative space where you can grow both personally and professionally. I believe that supervision is not just about offering guidance on clinical cases; it's about fostering self-awareness, resilience, and confidence in your work. I integrate developmental and reflective practice models, recognizing that each clinician is at a unique point in their journey and bringing their own experiences and challenges to the table. My goal is to help you reflect deeply on your practice, enhance your clinical decision-making, and develop strategies for managing the emotional demands of this work. We will explore your cases, discuss your challenges, and dive into the areas where you feel “stuck,” all while prioritizing self-care, professional boundaries, and preventing burnout. I aim to empower you with the tools and insight to approach your work with renewed clarity and confidence, creating space for continuous growth and learning. Supervision, for me, is about building a trusted partnership where you feel supported and encouraged to explore your strengths and areas for growth. Together, we’ll create an environment where reflection, learning, and connection are at the heart of your practice.
