What's the differences between consultation and supervision?
While the answer can be nuanced, here’s a simple way to think about the difference between supervision and consultation: Clinical supervision is typically provided by an experienced practitioner to an unregistered / unlicensed or pre-registered / pre-licensed practitioner such as students or individuals who are on a provisional or qualifying status with their regulatory body. In other words, supervision often relates to regulatory requirements and building overall clinical competence to practice.
Whereas, consultation is typically provided by an experienced practitioner to an actively registered or licensed practitioner with the specific goal to support the practitioner in building their skills in a particular approach, modality, or other practice-related work (like EMDR).
